Who we are

The farm Ausonia is located in Atri, in Abruzzo, and consists of 12 hectares of vineyard and about 400 olive trees. The whole company, consisting of a single body, is located at 270 s.l.m protected to the West by the Gran Sasso and exposed to the East, to the positive effects of the Adriatic Sea. The farm applies a grape-growing attention to eco-sustainability, and in the course of 2013 has started the process of organic certification. The farm is surrounded by vineyards, and is equipped with the most modern technology for the vinification of the grapes, to the aging and storage of wine, remaining firmly convinced that a great wine requires grapes of the highest quality and a great human commitment. The production of the wines come exclusively from grapes of the property, being the only way to have a tight control on the quality of the grapes.

Harvest 2015 is started

Yesterday we have started the harvest of grapes Pecorino and Chardonnay that we will use as pied de cuve for the new sparkling wine.

Vinitaly 2015

From the 22nd to 25th of March 2015 we will be at the 49 th Vinitaly Edition in Verona. We will be in the HALL 12 – STAND E3-E4.

Sorgentedelvino LIVE 2015 – PIACENZA EXPO

We will partecipate to the 7th edition of Sorgentedelvino LIVE natural wines of terroir and tradition takes place in Piacenza on February 14th to 16th, 2015. Sorgentedelvino LIVE is a yearly event dedicated to Italian natural, traditional and terroir wines, it is a great chance know and taste the wines of 150 carefully selected winegrowers. But also to meet the person who thought and made the wine, winegrowers are infact personally present with their wines, their history, their terroir and traditions.

Machaon Abruzzo Pecorino DOP Spontaneous Fermentation 2013

A new entry in our collection of wine is the Spontaneous Fermentation of our Abruzzo Pecorino that with the Trebbiano and Montepulciano complete the Natural Fermentation Line of products. These wines make the alcoholic fermentation with the yeast naturally present on the grape skins in full respect of the type of vineyards. Pure expression of the territory.

From Organic to Biodynamic practices

During the 2013 we started the organic process of certification. Starting from the 2014 we decided to started to use some biodynamic practices. We believe that a better quality of soil can give good results on our wines. Here are some photos of the practices that we are currently putting in place including green manure, composting and the use of the horn-manure to aid fertilization. The horn-manure is sprayed on the ground to increase the humus content, improving root development and plant nutrition. This preparation is distributed after being “dynamic” ( mixed in a certain method and for a certain time).

Vinitaly 2014

From the 6th to 9th of April 2014 we will be at the 48 th Vinitaly Edition in Verona. We will be in the HALL 12 – STAND E3-E4 , Location Number 2.

NaturaMente Vino 2013 – Rovereto

From Friday 26 of April, 2013 to Sunday 28 of April 2013 the winery Ausonia will participate at: NATURAMENTEVINO The Municipality of Rovereto with the organization of Vini Buoni d’italia, the collaboration of the Mart and associations in the area, held 26 to 28 April 2013 “NaturaMenteVino 2013.” The event will host a number of producers representing excellence in national and propose paths tasting alternative towards the Organic wines and traditional production.

University visit

The 14th December 2011, we received the visit of the students of the third year of the Cours of Science in Viticulture and Enology, University of Teramo. Accompanied by Professor Andrea Piva, Professor Franco Cercone and Professor Giuseppe Arfelli, the guys have shown great interest during the visit and a sensitive palate during the Ausonia’s wines tasting. After a brief introduction on the company’s history, we have shown the modern equipment of the winery. Particular interest was aroused by the filter ring, a concentrate of technology.

International Packaging Competition – Vinitaly 2012

The labels have won two gold medals in the categories white wines (with Pecorino Machaon) and rosé (with Cerasuolo Apollo) and a bronze medal as part of the red (Montepulciano Apollo), then winning the recognition most prestigious: the Special Prize Packaging. 2012 harvest

It is officially began the 2012 harvest! Today we started collecting Pecorino and then we will continue with the Trebbiano. it provides a very good vintage. Here are some photos.

The evening’s program includes: guided tour of the winery and tasting the wine collection “Ausonia” accompanied by typical food products. You can express your desires under the starry sky of August 10. The evening will be accompanied by pleasant music. Opening hours 18-24.

Biodynamic meeting

Beautiful biodynamic agriculture meeting held by one of the leading experts: the Australian Alex Podolinsky. A different way of thinking about agriculture. Special thanks to the company “Emidio Pepe” who hosted us wonderfully.

During the evenings 3- 4- 5 of August the farm Ausonia will participate at the 41 th Exhibition of Borgo Divino Montepagano, that will be held in Montepagano of Roseto degli Abruzzi. July the 20- 21- 22 “Momenti Di… Vini” 2012 Casoli di Atri

This year we will participate at the fourteenth edition of the culinary “Moments Of Wine …” that will taking place on the nights of 20- 21- 22 of July in the city center of Casoli di Atri . In the poster you can see the schedule and hours of the event.

Experimentation in the vineyard

Is continuing the experimentation in the vineyard in collaboration with the University of Enology in Teramo. In these pictures they are measuring the photosynthetic activity of leaves. The objective of the research is to monitor the behavior of the plant after an early defoliation of the first 6 leaves of the shoot, which took place during the flowering period.

Butterflies night

Reportage Open Cellars

Here are some photos of Open Cellars 2012 .. we want to thank you all who have come to know our history and our wines. They were two intense days of meetings and rich people who are passionate about wine and the Abruzzo region. Two beautiful days, thanks to everyone who participated. Some numbers: an estimated 400 guests, drinking bottles: 110, arrosticini eaten: 750, prepared bruschette: 11 kg, gnocco fritto: 9 kg!!!

Open Cellars

On 26 and 27 May the Azienda Agricola Ausonia will adhere to the event ‘Open Cellars‘ organized by the Movimento Turismo Vino and waiting for you to live a direct experience in the cellar. In addition to the tasting of our wines and typical local products, you can visit the vineyards and winery with tours. The hours of the event will be: 26 May from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m and the 27 May from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The new vineyard!

We introduce to you the new vineyard .. 7’0o0 square meters of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Facing South-West, near the winery, is designed to produce in a few years a great product! We just have to wait.

Pruning

Our “Edward Scissorhands” have almost finished the winter pruning, soon will sprout new shoots! We put a lot of attention in this operation that determines the development of the vineyard for next season.

Our first advertising campaign

On the new number of C Come Magazine was published our first advertising campaign designed by the study Di Paolo Immagini – GRAPHICS. On the Magazine you will also find an interesting insert on the Consorzio Colline Teramane to which we belong. Happy reading.

Vinitaly 2012

Visit us at Vinitaly 2012 at Hall 11, Sector E3/E4, Booth No. 2, Area Consorzio di Tutela Colline Teramane. This year the event will be held 25-28 March, come visit us to taste all our wines.

Snow snow snow

Here are some pictures of the abundant snowfall of yesterday. At least 40 cm of snow covering our vineyards.

We have bottled!

This week, despite the adverse weather, we have bottled our wines: Cerasuolo, Pecorino, and Trebbiano. To bottle Montepulciano we have to wait few months.
